Things to consider
- Swaps count. Exchanging one token for another is a disposal for Capital Gains Tax, even if you never cash out to pounds.
- Everything is valued in pounds. Each transaction needs a sterling value at the time it happened.
- Allowances are small. The Capital Gains Tax annual exempt amount is £3,000, and you may need to report disposals even when your gains are covered by it.
- Deadlines. The tax year runs 6 April to 5 April, and online returns are due by 31 January after it ends.
- Moving between your own wallets isn't taxable, but it has to be tracked to keep your cost figures right.
What we'll need from you
Transaction exports (or read-only access) for each exchange, your wallet addresses, and copies of any previous returns.
